64-year-old dies in quad bike accident in Carndonagh

A 64 year old man died in a quad bike accident on a farm near Cardonagh, Co Donegal.
Hugh ‘Heela’ Doherty was pronounced dead at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.
A son of the dead man, who was also on the bike at the time, was injured in the incident on Friday afternoon.
Both men were rushed to hospital around 2.30pm, but Mr Doherty Snr died as a result of his injuries.
His son was later released from hospital.
The accident happened on farm land off the main Carndonagh to Glentogher Road on the Inishowen Peninsula.
Gardai and ambulance crews rushed to the scene and took Mr Doherty and his son to hospital.
A full investigation has been launched by Gardai into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
It is believed the quad may have flipped over and fatally injured Mr.Doherty.
Mr Doherty was well-known in the area and was described by local as “an absolute gentleman.”
Today neighbours were coming to terms with his death.
