More help needed to tackle gorse fires – Pat the Cope

The Defence Forces have been deployed to help a major operation to tackle a large gorse fire in West Donegal.
Up to 50 personel will help ten units of the fire service already fighting the blaze in Lettermacaward and Dungloe.
Four houses in the area have been evacuated and fire fighters have requested the assistance of the army.
The Donegal Fire Service has said the blaze was started maliciously.
A number of key roads in the area are also impassable, the Meendrain, Meenacross, Leitir and Fintown Roads are all out of bounds, and motorists are asked to avoid these areas.
MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher, who lives in the heart of the worst affected area, says more help is needed to tackle the fires……..

Meanwhile, Donegal South-West Deputy Dinny McGinley has been in contact with the Ministry of Defence, and he says everything possible is being done…….
