£11 million has been released for ongoing preparatory work on the proposed new A5 Dual Carraigeway linking Derry and Aughnacloy. The funding was confirmed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny and First and Deputy First Ministers Peter Robinson and Martin Mc Guinness at a British Irish Council of Ministers meeting yesterday.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Mc Guinness said it is accepted by most progressive thinkers that this project is essential to the economic development of the North West of our island.
At present, the proposed development is the subject of an ongoing Public Hearing, with Ulster Unionist Roads Minister Danny Kennedy saying he won’t make any decisions on the future of the project until those hearings are completed.
