Murder accused back in Derry Magistrate’s Court on assault charges

A 46-year-old man who is already on remand on a murder charge faced another charge yesterday at Derry Magistrate’s Court.
Paul Greatbanks of Bayview Terrace was charged with assaulting a man causing him grievous bodily harm on December 28 last.
Greatbanks, who had been remanded into police custody yesterday for questioning appeared with his wrists heavily bandaged.
He did not speak during the short hearing and after a detective connected him to the charge he was remanded in custody to appear again on July 7.
When Greatbanks appeared on Thursday there were violent scenes in the court as relatives of the man he is accused of murdering shouted abuse and struggled with police officers.
For today’s appearance there was a heavy police presence and the court was kept clear of members ofthet public.
Outside a few people shouted abuse at Greatbanks as he was led into the court with his head covered in a coat.
