NI sex offender jailed for failing to notify police of address change

A convicted sex offender has been jailed for failing to notify police of a change of address.
46-year-old William Joseph O’Connor whose address was given as Maghaberry Prison had been ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely which meant he had to inform police of any change of address.
On March 7 O’Connor told police he was moving out of his father’s house.
Subsequently police were unable to contact O’Connor until March 21, when he was found sleeping rough and taken to hospital.
Police then had no contact with him until May 11, when he was arrested.
A defence solicitor told the court that his client was an alcoholic, who had been sleeping in a shed not far from his father’s house.
O’Connor was sentenced to 2 months in prison.
