Three north west players have been included on the Ireland squad for this years International Rules series in Australia. Donegal Captain Michael Murphy and his county teammate Neil Mc Gee from Gweedore have been named along with Tyrone’s Joe Mc Mahon. Murphy is involved in club action this weekend for Glenswilly but the Ulster Council have indicated that provincial championship matches will be put on hold in order to accommodate players travelling to Australia. Seven Ulster players have been named in the initial 18 man squad. The other four are Armagh duo Stephen McDonnell and Ciaran McKeever, Down’s Kevin McKernan and Monaghan’s Darren Hughes. Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton takes over from McDonnell as captain for the two games. There’s no place on the squad for Donegal’s Karl Lacey who had been training with the panel for the last number of weeks. Manager Anthony Tohill will add another five players ahead of the tour down under. The first match is in Melbourne on 28 October with the second Test taking place at the Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast on 4 November.
