Derry City Council has approved a DOE recommendation to demolish the former Hamilton Shirt Factory, and is now in consultation with the buildings’ owner.
The DOE had refused an application to demolish the building last October, but after an internal wall collapsed in the building over the holidays engineers have concluded the building is now structurally unsafe.
Cllr Paul Fleming is Chair of the City Council’s PLanning Committee. He’s hopeful the demolition work may begin over the weekend……….
