Letterkenny’s Maria McCambridge is hoping that her marathon time of 2:36:37 will be good enough to make the Irish Team for the London 2012 Olympics. Maria put in an outstanding performance during the Rome Marathon last Sunday to beat the qualification standard of 2:37:00. She joins Linda Byrne (Dundrum South Dublin AC) 2:36:23 and Ava Hutchinson (Dundrum South Dublin AC) 2:35:33 as the third Irish women to achieve the standard for London. Maria will however have to wait because with only three places on the team there is still a chance that she could miss out if someone else goes faster over the coming weeks.
Speaking with Myles Gallagher on Sunday Sport, Maria is keeping her fingers crossed that she will be part of the Irish Women’s Marathon Olympic Team.
