Figures released by Donegal County Council indicate that 10% of business premises in the county are vacant and available for rent or lease.
Sinn Fein Councillor Marie Therese Gallagher says this is a strong indication of how many businesses have now closed in Donegal and how few are being opened.
Last year the council wrote off 3.4 million as rates deeming irrecoverable while 22% of businesses have entered a payment plan with the council for a total amount of 2.25 million euro.
