Man dies in Offaly horse-riding accident

A curate in Co. Offaly says the town of Banagher is in a state of shock and disbelief following the tragic death of a 25-year-old local man.
Colin Guinan fell from a horse on the Crank Road in Lusmagh, Banagher at around twenty past six last evening suffering serious head injuries.
He was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin by the Athlone-based air ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Gardaí in Birr say the incident is under investigation but is currently being treated as a tragic accident.
Speaking to Midlands 103 Fr. Pierre Pepper said Colin was involved with horses from a very young age.
“Colin and the rest of the family – his bother and sister – have exactly said themselves last night you ride a horse before you are able to walk – it’s just in the blood” he said.
“They were horsing people through and through – been on a horse was second nature to them, part of who they were”.
“So (it) makes it all the more tragic” he added.
