Value of Donegal property market down in the first six months of 2013

There has been a small drop in the number of houses sold in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2012.
However, new figures show a 20% fall in the value of the properties sold.
The latest figures from the Property Register Show that in the first 6 months of 2013, 275 houses were sold in Donegal – 4% down of the 2012 figure of 287.
The average price of a house sold in Donegal from January to June was 80 thousand euro – thats 17,000 euro less than the same period of 2012 representing a fall of 18%.
The combined value of the property sold was just over 25 million euro down 20% on the first 6 months of 2012.
This is in contrast to the national picture, the combined value of all property sales so far this year increased by 9% to €1.96bn.
The figures seem to back up claims of a two tier property market with prices static or falling in rural areas while increase in most urban areas.
