There is now a serious threat of power cuts across the country this December – after unions at ESB announced that they will serve notice of industrial action.
The strike threat is over a 1-point-6 billion euro hole in the company’s pension scheme.
The unions will serve notice next Friday – and if there is no resolution by December 16th – they say they will be forced to take action.
The Government had appealed for restraint from the unions ahead of the meeting in a bid to limit the impact of potential power cuts on the elderly and members of the public.
