Fianna Fail confirm Colm Keaveney has applied to join the party

Former Labour party Chairman and Galway TD Colm Keaveney is waiting for Fianna Fáil to approve his application to join the party.
A formal announcement is expected later today after a meeting of the parliamentary party.
A Fianna Fáil statement confirmed the news earlier.
Deputy Keaveney is now expected to ditch plans to run in  European elections next year as an Independent.
Mr. Keaveney lost the Labour whip after voting against the government over cuts to respite care grants and in June he resigned from the party completely.
The Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn says he is disappointed by the decision of his former party colleague.
“Colm has made many choices, in a way for him this is the end of a particular journey, it’s a personal decision that he’s made” he said.
“It’s really…for him to make the decision; I’m sad that he left the Labour Party, I’m sad that he’s taken this particular route – but it’s a free country” he added.
