Inquest finds excess alcohol a factor in fatal road traffic collision

Garda accidentA van-driver with excess alcohol was watching the Champions League final in a pub shortly before he died in a road crash, his inquest heard yesterday.
31-year-old Seamus McGroary was pronounced dead at two minutes past midnight after watching Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund.
The inquest in Donegal was told his van was in a head-on collision with a car at Brenter, Dunkineely, on the night of May 25 last.
He had left a pub in Frosses after watching the game.
Donegal Garda traffic division Sgt John McFadden said alcohol tests showed Mr McGroary had more than two and a half times the permitted drink-drive level and it would have contributed to the collision.
The jury found that Mr McGroary, of Ballymacahill, Frosses, died from injuries received in the road accident.
