Given on Villa coaching staff

Shay Given has been promoted to Aston Villa’s coaching staff on a temporary basis.
The former Ireland international has been frozen-out of first-team action at Villa Park this season, but he’s now been asked to assist manager Paul Lambert and his coaches after the club suspended assistant manager, Ian Culverhouse and head of football operations Gary Karsa.
No reason has been given as yet, but the pair have both been asked to step aside, pending an internal investigation by the club.
Given and development coach Gordon Cowans will now help Lambert to prepare the team for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Southampton.
