The Public Expenditure Minister says tackling homelessness is an “absolute priority” for the Government.
Brendan Howlin say all state agencies will be asked to contribute any suitable properties they have for emergency accommodation – as the Cabinet meets to discuss how to tackle the crisis.
Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan is bringing plans to her colleagues this morning – which include measures like converting abandoned Garda stations, care homes and hospitals into housing units.
And Brendan Howlin says NAMA is also being asked to contribute.
“NAMA has been asked to identify any vacant properties it has. It has submitted a list of properties to various local authorities, many of which have now been transferred. That process will not continue at pace.”
