Three time Olympian O’Rourke calls time on career

derval o rourkeDerval O’Rourke has called time on her athletics career.
The three-time Olympian has been one of Ireland’s most successful athletes – winning 5 championship medals and competing at every major outdoor championship from 2002 to 2012.
She won a gold medal in the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in 2006, she was a two-time European Championship silver medalist over 100m hurdles in 2006 and 2010 and she also took home bronze medals from the European Indoor Championships in 2009 and in 2013 – which proved to be the final competitive race of her career.
The 33-year-old, who also came agonisingly close to a World championship medal in 2009 when she finished fourth at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, had been hoping to return from Achilles surgery to compete at this summer’s European championships in Zurich.
