Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA is calling for an outright ban on fracking on both sides of the border.
Phil Flanagan was speaking after the North’s Environment Minister Mark H Durkan rejected Tamboran’s proposals for exploratory drilling in Fermanagh under permitted development rights.
This means a full Environmental Impact Assessment and planning application will have to be submitted by the company, and the drilling will not be allowed under the terms of the exporation licence it currently holds.
Similar exploration licences have been issued in the republic in recent years, with Phil Flanagan saying that should never have happened.
He says its time for a final decision on both sides of the border…………
