The chairperson of the Glenties Action Group says the delay in the replacement of the Mullantiboyle Bridge is being caused by an edict from the Department of the Environment, but the department has not responded to invitations to local meetings.
Brian Carr says Donegal County Council had set aside 100,000 euro to replace the bridge, after it was damaged in 2010 when a lorry was diverted down that road and damaged the structure.
However, a study determined that in order to protect the fresh water mussel, no support piers could be placed in the water, and as a result, the estimated price rose sixfold.
