Ireland manager Martin O’Neill wants to mix and match his selection for tomorrow’s friendly international against Oman as he prepares for Sunday’s opening Euro2016 qualifier against Georgia.
Darron Gibson will start for in midfield after O’Neill confirmed that the Everton player will make his first international appearance in 11 months, while the likes of James McClean , Robbie Brady and Stephen Ward are also likely to be given a run-out after being starved of game time at their clubs.
Gibson’s clubmate, James McCarthy will be rested for tomorrow’s game, while West Ham’s Joey O’Brien has withdrawn from the squad for treatment on his on-going knee injury.
O’Neill admits that some of his players aren’t quite as ‘match sharp’ as he would like them to be, but he’s pleased with the mentality within the squad…
