New research shows strong regional preferences when it comes to buying fruit and vegetables.
While bananas top the charts in most counties, and berries, tomatoes, potatoes and oranges are also in the top five, there are also strong regional preferences, according to a study by Tesco of the bestsellers in its stores nationwide.
The supermarket chain said it sells 70 million bananas a year, making them the number one seller, but fresh berries take the number one spot in Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kildare and Mayo.
And Donegal consumers are also particularly keen on sweet potato, while Sligo natives buy a larger share of chillies and fresh herbs.
