A Mayo County Councillor has retracted his comments after he called Bundoran a “shanty town”.
Speaking at a meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District of Mayo County Council this week, Independent Councillor Christy Hyland said that signage over pubs had become “gaudy” and that Westport was in danger of becoming “a shanty town like Bundoran”.
But when challenged over the comments by Bundoran Cllr Sean McEniff, the Mayo Cllr retracted his remarks and accepts that the town is now a tourism hotspot.
And Cllr McEniff says the comments, which received national coverage, can be used as a positive…………..
