James McAvoy has shaved off his hair for his Professor Charles Xavier role in the next X-Men film.
The Scottish star will reprise his role in X-Men: Apocalypse, and it looks like he is going bald to match Sir Patrick Stewart’s original portrayal.
Director Bryan Singer shared a photo of the actor undergoing the hair removal process on Instagram, with the caption: “#Xavier reborn (in process ) #jamesmcavoy #XMEN #XMenApocalypse @xmenmovies.”
James sported a full head of hair as the youthful mind-reading professor in both 2011′s X-Men: First Class and 2014′s Days Of Future Past.
The 36-year-old actor revealed he was prepared to say goodbye to his luscious locks for the third instalment of the sci-fi franchise, saying last November: “It was always sort of planned that I’d shave my head for the first one I think. There were people sort of surprised that I wasn’t [bald] in the first one.
“But we just thought it was good to sort of leave the physical evolution of the character ’til later in the story, because you don’t just go back and find them exactly as they are in the future.”
Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will also return for X-Men: Apocalypse, alongside newcomers Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
The film will be released in May 2016.
