Donal O’Brien’s Cockhill Celtic notched up yet another memorable win as they beat Leinster Senior League side St. Mochta’s 3-0 in their Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup second round clash at the Charlie O’Donnell Sportsgrounds.
There was little between the sides in a first half of few chances. Glen Crowe had the best chance for the visitors but Gavin Cullen tipped his effort onto the woodwork.
Cockhill went ahead on 49 minutes through a Gerry Gill penalty after Aidan O’Donnell was brought down in the box by the St. Mochta’s goalkeeper.
Cockhill made it 2-0 on 71 minutes with Mattie Henry tapping home from close range.
St. Mochta’s pressed hard late on but Cockhill put the icing on the cake with a third goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time which was converted by Gill again, following an incident that saw the St. Mochta’s goalkeeper Warren Fee picking up a second yellow card.
