Chris Evans has confirmed he’s working on a “secret” ‘Top Gear’ project.
The BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show host has revealed he’s working on a “secret ‘Top Gear’ film” despite having vehemently denied he was set to take over from Jeremy Clarkson after he was sacked for punching a producer earlier this year.
Asked whether he had started to present the BBC motoring show yet, Chris said: “Not started yet, but we are doing a secret ‘Top Gear’ film on Tuesday.”
The 49-year-old star – who is set to bring back his live music show ‘TFI Friday’ this week – went on to insist the project is being kept under wraps.
Speaking on Channel 4’s ‘Sunday Brunch’, he explained: “It still will be [secret], because nobody knows where it’s going to be but we’re going to make one and see how it goes.
“We’re making a ‘Top Gear’ – we’re doing a ‘Top Gear’ sequence with an independent production company and we’re going to see how it goes.”
Following Evans’ confession, Clarkson and his former ‘Top Gear’ colleagues James May and Richard Hammond – who are reported to have snubbed the BBC’s big-money attempts to make them return to the show – took to their Twitter accounts to mock the flame-haired presenter.
Clarkson wrote: “Next week, I’m doing a pilot Radio 2 breakfast show with an independent production company. We’ll see how it goes.”
