Taoiseach meets Omagh campaigners but makes no specific commitment to inquiry

The Taoiseach’s held a meeting with victims of the Omagh Bombing and family members of some of those who died.
Enda Kenny says he assured them that the Government would continue to work to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Mr Kenny gave no specific commitment to support calls for a cross border public inquiry, telling the Group that the Government would give a full response to all of the issues that they raised with him following the conclusion of current criminal proceedings.

Government statement in full –

The Taoiseach met this evening with the Omagh Support and Self Help Group. The Taoiseach was accompanied by the Minister for Justice & Equality, Ms Frances Fitzgerald T.D. and officials.
Speaking after the meeting the Taoiseach said “Tonight’s meeting follows through on the commitment to meet that I gave to Michael Gallagher in the Glenties last July.
We had a good and frank discussion on the issues of concern to the group in relation to the Omagh bombing. I assured them that the Government will continue to work with the people of Omagh to pursue every avenue to get to the truth to ensure that those who perpetrated this atrocity are brought to justice.
I told the Group that the Government would give a full response to all of the issues that they raised in the report that they submitted to the Government following the conclusion of current criminal proceedings”.
