West Donegal Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig says other members have refused to back his call for a walkout from the chamber over Cllr John O’Donnell’s failure to resign.
The Independent councillor’s call followed Cllr O’Donnell’s appearance on an RTE Investigates Programme during which he was secretly filmed, apparently being offered money to support a fictitious windfarm application.
He denies any wrongdoing, and is threatening to sue RTE.
Donegal County Council is investigating, and Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig says the special meeting heard plenty of speeches and calls for Cllr O’Donnell to step down.
However, he says it appears most members are not willing to follow through……….

Cllr Frank Mc Brearty Jnr told Highland Radio News this morning that he looking at initiating legal proceedings as a result of the programme, and he believes that is the appropriate action to take.
Meanwhile, the Donegal People’s Press reports today that Cllr O’Donnell broke his silence at the weekend during a function in Kilmacrennan, telling their reporter that he has no plans to resign, and he believes he still has the support of the electorate.
When asked if he would contest the next General Election, he is quoted as saying “watch this space”.
