Donegal boxer Brett McGinty wins in America

Donegal boxer Brett McGinty had a terrific win in America on Saturday night.
He won in Washington DC against Deonte Washington, who is a America’s golden gloves champ, which is the equivalent of Ireland’s national championship.
Brett (17) overcame his more experienced opponent Washington (19) in the 69 kilo light/middleweight division.
Brett is from St Johnston and fights for Derry’s Oak Leaf Club whose secretary Eugene O’Kane said it was a great victory.
He said Brett shaded the first round but convincingly won the second and third rounds.
Eugene said the win sets Brett up perfectly for Dublin this Saturday when he competes in the U18 championships with the aim of qualifying for the European Championships.
