Local rally driver Kris Meeke has taken victory today at Rally Finland, which he has called the “home of rally”.
The Tyrone man, who lives in Donegal, and Killarney co-driver Paul Nagle drove their Citroen DS3 to success on the biggest event on the WRC calendar, taking victory by 28.1 seconds from the Volkswagen Polo of home favourite Jari-Matti Latvala.
For local rally fans, the Finland Rally is probably the biggest rally in the world.
Meeke said: “This is the home of rally. I’ve been enjoying it like a kid. It’s exceptional. Great team effort.”
The brilliant drive sees Kris become just the sixth non-Nordic victor in the rally’s 65-year history.
