Tory Islanders vote narrowly to accept Queen of Aran proposals

Tory Island residents have voted to accept proposals which has led to the resolution of the dispute over the Tory Island ferry service.
A report from Pól Ó Gallchóir, Chairman of Foras na Gaeilge and former chief executive of TG4, was submitted to Islanders and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht on Friday March 23.
Islanders agreed to accept Mr Ó Gallchóir’s recommendations in a vote taken following a public meeting.
Minister Joe McHugh welcomed the news adding “Now that ferry, cargo and transport services to and from the island are secure we should look forward to Tory becoming a place where more and more people will want to visit, live and stay in the coming years.”

Pól Ó Gallchóir’s report includes a series of recommendations, including that a fast ferry service, maximum 12 seater,  should run twice daily from April 1 2018, complementary to the Queen of Aran service which is due to begin on the same date.
