It is reported that 91-year-old EastEnders star June Brown has signed a new contract to continue playing Walford doyenne Dot Branning.
British tabloid The Sun claims that the stage and screen veteran will appear in the BBC One soap “for the foreseeable future”.
“BBC bosses know that June has a huge fanbase and she’s a big draw for older viewers,” a source told The Sun.
“She’s a real character and the rest of the cast and crew love her too.”
“They want her to be on the show as long as she feels comfortable acting so are delighted that she’s agreed to renew her contract,” the source continued.
“June finds working regularly keeps her feeling young at heart and enjoys the job immensely.”
An EastEnders spokesperson said: “We never comment on artists’ contracts.”
Brown has been with EastEnders, playing her iconic character since the year the soap began, 1985.
EastEnders airs on RTÉ One and BBC One on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
