New Bill could see restoration of direct elections to Údarás board


Fianna Fáil has published a Bill to provide for the restoration of direct elections to the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta.
Under the Bill, Údarás will consist of a chairperson who will be appointed by the Minister and 14 other members; 11 shall be directly elected and 3 shall be appointed by the Minister, one of whom must be resident on an offshore island that is in the Gaeltacht.
Fianna Fail Gaeltacht Spokesperson Éamon Ó Cuív says the Bill will allow for more representation across all Gaeltacht areas:
