Work on Four Lane road into Letterkenny to begin in January

Work on the Four Lane road into Letterkenny is set to begin in January, with a nine month Irish Water project to be followed by safety works on the road itself.
Letterkenny Municipal District was told this week that Irish Water is due to begin major works to upgrade the trunk water main on the four lane road between the Dry Arch and Polestar Roundabouts, with that project set to get underway in January of next year.
The work will take up to nine months to complete, with tenders for the contract currently being examined.
With regards to the planned improvements on the road itself, the National Road Design Office has indicated full planing permission hs already been secured, and detailed design work should be complete by the end of the year. Tenders will then be sought in the first part of 2019.
In the meantime, councillors have been told land purchase negotiations are ongoing.
Engineers have also stressed the commencement of the road safety works will be dependent on when the Irish Water project is complete.
