Concern over ‘shortfall’ of downstairs facilities in social housing

 

There’s concern over what’s been described as a shortfall in downstairs facilities being provided in social housing in Donegal.
Donegal County Council has stressed that it does endeavour to accommodate such facilities where necessary but it is not possible to or cost effective in the design of all new social housing projects.
The local authority also says that it will continue to liaise with the Department to provide lifetime adaptable housing where the need has been identified.
Cllr Gerry Crawford says he’s been in touch with a lot of people with a disability who are struggling living with inadequate facilities and believes a more proactive approach is needed:
