May reaffirms Irish backstop commitments


The British Prime Minister has reaffirmed her commitment that the Irish border backstop will only be a temporary solution if needed.
Speaking on the BBC this morning, Theresa May tried to allay the fears of MPs who are concerned it could remain in place indefinitely.
A debate on her deal is due to take place this week, with the PM confirming that a subsequent vote will be held on the 14th or 15th of this month.
