Sinn Féin is to challenge the ministers for Public Expenditure and Social Protection to immediately pay the emergency Pandemic Unemployment Payment available to people employed in the Republic, and living in Northern Ireland.
The party says the Irish government claimed EU regulations meant they could not make the payment available to workers who live in the north. However, MEP Chris McManus received an answer from the European Commission last week stating there is no barrier to the Irish government making the payment available to the workers.
Donegal TD Padraig Mac Lochlainn says workers living in Northern Ireland paid their taxes and social insurance payments, and have been the victims of an injustice:
