Short stay ward fully open but fears over looming winter

 

The Western Regional Health Forum has been told that all of the 19 Short Stay Beds are open and staffed in Letterkenny University Hospital.
Councillor Gerry McMonagle was also told that 37 additional nurses were employed since the beginning of COVID-19, 23 of whom were offered permanent contracts.
31 doctors were employed over the same period, and one permanent Consultant Gastroenterologist has commenced employment.
Cllr McMonagle says that’s to be welcomed, but has expressed concern that after 38 extra beds were commissioned during the pandemic, there’s no funding to keep them open for the winter…………
