Fresh concern over armed cover for Gardai in Donegal

 

There’s further concern over armed cover for Gardai in Donegal during serious incidents involving weapons.
The unit which covers Donegal is based in Ballyshannon but also covers the Sligo – Leitrim area and at times, is simply not available to provide a swift response to a potential emergency.
This can lead to armed response being sourced from Cavan, Mayo or even Galway which are hours away.
Donegal GRA Spokesperson Brendan O’Connor says that unfortunately the treat of a critical incident is ever present and Gardai simply don’t have the adequate back up on standby:
