SIPTU warns ambulance shortages in Donegal are no longer rare

SIPTU has warned that ambulance shortages are no longer a rare occurrence as they once were.

On a number of occasions recently, no ambulance was available to respond to calls in Donegal with crews having to travel from other parts of the country.

One incident involved a garda patrol car being used to respond to an emergency call and transfer a patient to Letterkenny University Hospital.

Ciaran Sheridan, SIPTU Health Division Organiser speaking on today’s Nine til Noon Show, says shortages right across the country are having a significant impact on services in Donegal.

He says last week, the only ambulance available to respond to an emergency call in Bellmullet, Co Mayo had to travel from Donegal:
