There are very few easy games in the run-in to the end of the season but they don’t come much tougher than City’s trip to Tallaght on Friday evening (KO 8pm).
These are two of the division’s in-form teams at present with the leaders and current champions having won eight of their nine previous league outings.
The Candystripes are on a bit of a roll themselves, having picked up 17 points from their last seven. There have been five wins and two draws for Ruaidhri Higgins’ men since ‘the Hoops’ came from 2-0 down to win at the Brandywell in July.
“They’re the best team in the country and have been for a couple of years now” stated the City manager.
“They have real quality all over the park and are clear at the top on merit. Rovers are the benchmark for the league and we’re very much improving so it should be a good contest.”
“Tallaght is a fantastic venue for football as well, so we’ll look to go there and be positive.”
On the team front, Joe Thomson completes his three-match ban while Higgins suggested that winger Marc Walsh is inches away from being included in his squad.
Elsewhere there are no concerns for the visitors who would strengthen their hold on a top four place should they take something from the match.
