Homeowners and family representatives say it was almost midnight last night by the time they received the final draft report of the Defective Blocks Working Group and they will assess its contents today before issuing a response and deciding whether they will sign off on it.
It’s understood the report reflects two differing perspectives – that of the homeowners, who are demanding 100% redress, and that of the Department of Housing officials.
Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien has indicated that once he has considered all perspectives from the working group, he will bring recommendations to cabinet.
This morning, the Irish Times is reporting officials on the working group are recommending that the government do not commit to a 100% Redress scheme, saying the cost could exceed €3.2 billion.
Homeowner and group member Michael Doherty says while they haven’t yet read the report in detail, that would not be a surprise……….
Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed a demonstration will go ahead in Dublin on this day week, beginning at the Garden of Remembrance at 12 noon.
