Would you like your culture building to become more accessible?

Donegal County Council would like to assist people in making culture buildings more accessible, which, the Council says, can increase footfall and participation in culture by older people.

Expressions of interest are being sought in participating in accessibility audits of such venues.

The Cultural departments of Donegal County Council and Derry City & Strabane District Council came together to commission an audience development baseline survey and programme across the North West to understand and increase the engagement of citizens in the area in arts, culture and heritage.

The research phase of the project was not only to provide baseline information on cultural engagement across the North West, but to identify specific audience targets. One identified target group was older people and one of the issues demonstrated was accessibility to culture venues.

In Donegal, the Council plans to conduct an accessibility audit on culture venues before the end of February 2022.

They are inviting culture venues to complete an Expression of Interest Form in having an accessibility audit at their venue.

They can do so by contacting Rita Chapman, Donegal County Library.
