There’s calls for a dedicated slipway for emergency services to be installed at Meevagh, following a recent incident where the coastguard was delayed in deploying from there.
Currently the coastguard at Meevagh has to launch from a commercial slipway – meaning that there are other boats that use the slipway during working hours.
Cllr Liam Blaney says this recently led to a delay in attending an incident in Mulroy Bay, where a number of people had gotten into difficulty on the water.
He says the added infrastructure needs to be put in place as a matter of urgency:
