Calls for Lough Mourne to be lowered to increase water supply

There have been calls for Lough Mourne to be lowered by one metre, costing around €20m.

Lough Mourne supplies water to the Finn Valley area right down to Lifford but during the recent spell of good weather, the water level dropped significantly.

It had previously been proposed that the Lough should be lowered by one metre to allow for an increase in supply, but work was never carried out.

Cllr Martin Harley says the water level was dangerously low and he believes the €20m project is required to ensure the supply can cope with demand..
