Police are investigating what they have described as ‘a calculated and callous attack’ in the Galliagh area of Derry last night involving around 10 masked men.
Shortly after 11pm the men, believed to have been armed with baseball bats, started a fire on the bonnet of a car parked in the Moss Park area and smashed a number of windows at the property before making off.
The occupants of the house were not injured.
Police say they are treating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
