Special council workshop on housing must provide answers – McGowan

Donegal County Council is to hold a special workshop next month to discuss the housing crisis, with one councillor saying if there isn’t a satisfactory outcome from that meeting, then they’ll be straight on the road to Dublin.

Cllr Patrick McGowan, Cathaoirleach of the Lifford Stranorlar Municipal district says sometimes it seems the council and the government are each trying to pass the buck to each other, and neither is providing adequate answers as to how the crisis can be resolved.

He says for years, the old fire station in Stranorlar has been lying empty, and despite indications that it could be used for a social housing project, nothing has happened.

Cllr McGowan says at the council’s May meeting, more than 30% of motions related to housing, and that tells its own story…………
