Increase in North West homelessness rates as national figure reaches record high

New figures released by the Department of Housing have revealed an increase in the number of people in homeless accommodation in the North West as the figure now stands at 84, a rise of five people since the end of June.

In Donegal and Leitrim, the figure rose by four to 33 at the end of July compared to 29 at the end of June.

In Sligo, 51 people are currently in homeless accommodation.

In the North West, 11 families with 22 children were accessing emergency accommodation during the last week of July, an increase of three children since the end of June.

Nationally, a record number of people are in emergency homeless accommodation in Ireland, at 10,568.
