“Serious delays” at Letterkenny University Hospital ED as 115 patients present in one day

The Saolta Hospital Group has warned of long wait times at the Emergency Department at Letterkenny University Hospital today, following a surge in admissions over the weekend.

Saolta say that 115 people attended the LUH Emergency Department in one day yesterday, causing pressure on available beds and “serious delays” in moving patients from the ED to wards for further treatment.

There are currently 22 patients waiting on trolleys at LUH today, with 24 patients currently with Covid-19 in the hospital also causing delays.

Saolta say that all available beds are in use and that every effort is being made to discharge patients who are ready to go home.

In their statement, the hospital also acknowledged that these delays are very difficult for patients and their families and apologised for the inconvenience and distress these delays cause.
