Treatment in NI and elsewhere in the EU must be made more accessible – McGarvey

A Donegal councillor is calling on the government to establish a revolving fund under which monies for procedures abroad could be paid in advance.

Cllr Ian McGarvey says under initiatives such as Treatment Abroad and the Northern Ireland Planned Healthcare Scheme, people are expected to pay for the procedure and then have the money refunded by the HSE.

He says realistically, most people cannot afford this, and a better system is needed.

Cllr McGarvey says a person should be appointed at each hospital to help streamline payments and applications, and help the patients as much as possible…………
