King Charles III officially crowned as Britain’s new monarch

King Charles the Third has been formally announced as Britain’s new sovereign during a ceremony at St James’s Palace in London.

More than 200 senior politicians past and present, witnessed the new King taking part in the key constitutional and ceremonial step, which was broadcast on TV for the first time in history.

He became King immediately after his mother’s death on Thursday, but today he has officially been named ‘Charles the Third’.

It’s a constitutional event which dates back to Saxon times, and it’s the first time it has been televised.
